Unmasking Ella: Meet Ella

18 Mar

I’m so excited to reveal Ella Taylor, the main character and modern day Cinderella in my new novella Unmasking Ella. My co-author Krista Newport posted something on her blog about Ella earlier this month. Thankfully, Ella agreed to stop by my blog too so that we could find out a little bit more about the girl in in the mask!

Secret Cinderella

Q & A with Ella

What’s your favorite color?

Tiffany’s blue

Favorite person in the world?

I would be my BFF Fiona, for sure. She’s amazing and loyal.

If you were a super hero, what would your secret power be?

I’d have to say the ability to read minds. There are so many things I wish I could hear.

Who is your secret crush?

If I told you it wouldn’t be a secret now would it?

Oh! Don’t forget to add it Unmasking Ella to Goodreads!

Thanks for stopping by to learn about Ella! If you have any questions for her, leave them in the comments below and I’ll make sure I ask her for you. :p

Unmasking Ella: Exclusive Excerpt!

18 Mar

Happy St. Patty’s Day!

I hope you’re all spending it drinking something delicious and eating Corned Beef and Cabbage! Because it’s the Month of Shamrocks, Krista and I thought we’d give you something extra special… an excerpt from our premiere novella Unmasking Ella. In case you haven’t heard yet, our debut novella is a modern retelling of one of our favorite fairy tales: Cinderella. Below is the excerpt:

“Bitch” scrawled messily across my arm was the first thing my eyes focused on. My head was pounding. My eyelids weighed a thousand pounds. I needed water right away. I struggled into a sitting position; my head was spinning and it was hard to keep upright. Wait. Bitch wasn’t the only thing written on me. My arms were covered in writing and words that were quick to bring tears to my eyes. Slut, whore, idiot, skank, were among the many.

Don’t forget to add it to Goodreads so you can be alerted when it’s released or just to read the whole synopsis!

There it is folks! The first paragraph. What do you think?

Summary from Goodreads:

“I like you.” His voice is low and soft, which I don’t deserve. I look away, down the rutted parking lot.

“Don’t…waste those words on me.”

He touches my cheek. “You just need someone to show you.”

“No.” I ease back again. “I don’t. So please, Torrin, stop trying to swoop in and save me. I don’t need saving.”

College freshman Quinn Montgomery will do anything to avoid the mistake her sister made—killing herself over a boy. But when she is forced into nude modeling at a local college to support her family after a bankruptcy, she begins to crack, just enough to let Torrin, the university’s top varsity oarsman, see that the real Quinn is not as feisty and unapproachable as she wants everyone to think. But letting someone in comes at a steep cost and, it turns out, Torrin is connected to Quinn’s family in more ways than she could ever imagine.

Irish Mojitos For All!

5 Mar

Welcome to another installment of The Month of Shamrocks!

My BFF / Shamrock opponent Krista Newport (does this make her a frenemy?) posted a delicious looking DIY Shamrock Shake today. Who doesn’t love shakes AND girl scout cookies? Well played Krista, well played. I will accept her frosty treat and raise her an alcoholic beverage!

Behold the glory of an Irish Mojito! I too found this on Pinterest (my addiction) and here so I thought I would share the Irish love.

Unmasking Ella: Masked Moodboard of Sexy

4 Mar

When I was little, my aunt started a tradition. Celebrate St. Patty’s day in a big way. We’d wake up to green milk, green eggs, green shamrocks mysteriously painted on our arms, and more.

In fact, the celebration has a tradition of expanding even longer than just the 17th. Sometimes it goes for a week or more! So, in honor of my heritage (Irish), my favorite holiday St. Patty’s Day, and the announcement of my new novella Unmasking Ella (Secret Cinderella #1), my best friend and co-author Krista Newport and I will be celebrating The Month of Shamrocks!

I’ll be posting odes to hot Irish men, snippets from books I love, and of course, sneak peaks into Unmasking Ella (who also happens to contain a hot Irishman).

Today brings you a Masked Moodboard of Sexy, to give you a feel for the novel.

Book News: Unmasking Ella

1 Mar

I have BIG news, guys!

My talented best friend Krista Newport and I often talk about writing. We bounce ideas back and forth, talk about book boyfriends, and give book recommendations.  You know, the normal stuff BFFLs discuss. And one day we got to talking about something that I fell in love with right off the bat!

So we co-wrote it!

Behold, our New Adult, fairy tale project titled Unmaking Ella, #1 in the Secret Cinderella series!

Ella Taylor has been longing for freedom since the fateful day her father died, leaving her with Coco, the step-bitch from the West, and Brooke, the wickedest of wicked stepsisters. There’s little time for a love life when Ella has to earn her keep while paying her way through college. That doesn’t stop her from swooning over Killian Ward, Mr. Gorgeous, Irish, and very off-limits. If only Brooke didn’t already have her cat claws sunk into him.

With Killian off limits, Ella is sure that all she can do is dream, until the opportunity of a lifetime arises. If she can’t have Killian in real life, maybe she can have him for three days of Midsummer, the annual Greek campus tradition. Three days of parties. Three days in masks. Will Ella find her secret Cinderella ending? Or in the real world, does the evil stepsister always win?

Please add it to Goodreads and check it out! I’m so excited.

Never Forget Blog Tour & Exclusive Interview with Carl!

1 Mar

Never Forget Tour Banner

I’m so thankful to be a part of the Never Forget Blog Tour for Never Forget by Emma Hart, hosted by Dani Morales. This book is awesome!!

I really loved it and was lucky enough to score an exclusive interview with the oh-so-fine Carl from the book! I know what you’re thinking and yes, it was very hard to not swoon all over the place. But first, a little about the book…

Never Forget

Never Forget

by Emma Hart

Book Blurb:

A city girl.

A small town boy.

A summer they’ll never forget.

Spending the summer at her Grammy’s in Lilac Bay, Devon, is city girl Alexis ‘Lexy’ Edwards idea of hell. That is, until she reconnects with her childhood friend, Jen, and meets Alec Johnson.

Alec is the kind of guy Lexy knows she needs to stay away from. He’s the village flirt, ridiculously hot and very dangerous to her self control. But there’s a problem – she can’t seem to keep him out, even though she knows he’ll break her heart.

As Alec slowly strips away Lexy’s defences and the two embark on a summer romance she never wanted, their feelings grow to more than either expected. But nothing lasts forever, and reality intrudes.

As her world is shaken to it’s core, Lexy’s self made prediction comes true when she discovers she’s spent six weeks surrounded by secrets. Kept out by her family and the only guy she’s ever trusted, she falls apart.

And when Grammy tells her that ‘you might not end up where you wanted to be, but you’ll always end up where you’re meant to be,’ she has to figure out if her meant to be is back home in London, or if it’s been in Devon the whole time.

Exclusive interview with Carl

Hi Carl! Thank you so much for being here today. How are you?
Well, hey, there. *winks* I’m fine. How are you?
Good! Haha. Thanks. (At this point I could feel my face growing warm). So let’s just get right down to business. There’s so many questions I have for you. One of the first times we met you, you were surfing. How long have you been surfing? What’s the biggest wave you’ve ever surfed?
I’ve been surfing since I was about six and Alec’s Dad taught us, so thirteen odd years now. The biggest wave is maybe five foot.. But that was a choppy kinda day down Croyde. Somehow, we managed it.
Nice! One of the things I love most about you Carl, is your cute relationship with Jen. You’re caring and doting but you’re not afraid to dish out a little sass. Imagine my surprise when I found out that you used to be a player like Alec. Would you agree that you were?
*laughs* I don’t think anyone could be as bad as Alec. Except maybe Bing…
Haha! Agreed. So I’m curious, what about Jen made you want to change your ways?  How did you convince her to give you a chance?
I loved – and love – the fact she’s not afraid to put me in my place. If you didn’t already guess from the book, she has a smart as hell mouth. I convinced her by not leaving her alone until she agreed to dinner. Dinner ended up as ice-cream at Mum’s cafe… Maybe not my smartest move. I may have forgotten to book the table at the restaurant.
*Shakes head*  Tsk Tsk Carl. So how long have you two been together?
Two years. I should be nationally recognized for that.
Ha! I’ll note that. Which leads me to my next set of questions. You’re attractive and I’m sure a lot of girls were swooning over you throughout the book. So I’d kind of like to ask you a few personal questions if that’s alright. Who is your favorite band? Favorite song?
Well, they were, were they? Tell me, Jolie, were you swooning? *winks*
And the questions.. I’m trying really hard to think of a manly band here, so I’ll just settle for Muse – Supermassive Black Hole. They’re kinda manly, I guess.
Boxers or briefs? (You’re welcome ladies)
*smirks* boxers. You know, if I wasn’t with Jen, I would have let you find that out first hand.
*Clears throat* Ahem. What is your favorite alcoholic beverage?
A nice cold pint of Carlsberg.
What’s your biggest fear?
Okay, don’t laugh. Promise? It’s kinda funny. *clears throat* I’m scared of deep water.
Really? Coming from a man that swims in the ocean? Alright. That kind of surprised me. Do it again. Can you tell us a secret that no one else knows? Not even Jen?
I just did. I guess it’s not really a secret now though, huh?
Fair enough. Your secrets are safe with me. And with that, our time is up, sadly. Thanks so much for the interview Carl! I have one last question for you before you leave. If you had to say anything to the readers of Never Forget, what would you say? Why do you think they should read this book?
Read it because I’m in it. Do they need another reason?
Oh, and because I prove that, unlike Jen thinks, I am more romantic than a teaspoon.

About the Author:

Emma Hart

By day, Emma Hart dons a cape and calls herself Super Mum to a terrible two year old. By night, she drops the cape, pours a glass of wine and writes books.

She likes to write about magic, kisses and whatever else she can fit into the story. Sarcastic, witty characters are a must. As are hot guys. She has two new series planned as well as her New Adult Romance, Never Forget, due February 2013. She likes to be busy – unless busy involves doing the dishes.
Her debut YA series, The Mauve Legacy, is an Apple iBooks Bestseller – and this makes Emma excited.

Review: Never Forget by Emma Hart (Spoiler Free)

Oh my gosh. This is a fantastic read! In fact, I loved it so much that I’d really like to have Alec, or Carl for that matter, as my new book boyfriends. Emma did a fantastic job writing both alternating perspectives. I thought she wrote Alec in a very believable way, which isn’t always an easy voice to capture for female writers. But of course, Emma made it look easy!

Never Forget is a romantic read about a summer romance, that truthbetold, I always wanted to have but never did. Lexy is a reluctant love interest who really isn’t looking for any type of romance. Alec is swoonworthy, quick to deliver snark, and can’t seem to stop thinking about her. Together, paired with her childhood best friend Jen (and Carl), Lexy embarks on the summer of a lifetime filled with fun, wit, and love.

I also thought that Emma did a great job keeping the characters that she wrote, separate. They each had unique personalities, served a purpose, and at no point did I think, “Wait a second. I’m not sure if I buy that response.”  I don’t want to give too much away, but if you’re looking for a light, fun, romantic read, this is definitely the novel for you!

Huge thank you to Carl (swoon), Emma, and to Dani for letting me be a part of this blog tour! It’s been fun and I really enjoyed this novel. Leave me a comment below, I’d love to hear what you thought of the book and/or Carl’s interview!
